Addiction Recovery in Colombo: Reversing the Pattern at Its Source
Addiction is rarely about the substance alone. It is a learned pattern the mind has come to rely on, often to manage pain, stress or an unmet need. At our Colombo practice, Dr. Dee works with that underlying pattern directly, so that change does not depend on willpower alone. Every programme is confidential, personalised and delivered in a calm, non-judgemental setting.
Understanding addiction
Addiction is not a character flaw. Many capable, successful people in Colombo live with it quietly, often for years, while it erodes their health, relationships, work and finances.
It usually begins with something that brings relief: a drink to unwind, a pill to sleep, a habit that softens a difficult feeling. Over time the mind links that behaviour to safety or comfort. The pattern then repeats automatically, even when the person sincerely wants to stop.
This is why advice such as "just stop" so often fails. The conscious mind may decide, but the subconscious mind continues to run the old programme. Lasting recovery comes from understanding and changing that programme.

Signs it may be time to seek help
You, or someone close to you, may benefit from support if several of these sound familiar:
You have promised yourself, more than once, to cut down or stop, and could not keep that promise.
You need more of the substance or behaviour to feel the same effect.
You feel restless, irritable, low or unwell when you go without it.
It is affecting your work, your family or your finances.
You hide or downplay how much you use.
Activities you once enjoyed no longer interest you.
Family members have expressed concern.
Recognising these signs is not a reason for shame. It is the first step towards change.
Why addiction takes hold
In Dr. Dee's experience, addictive behaviour almost always serves a purpose. Identifying that purpose is central to reversing it. Common roots include:
Unresolved emotional pain: grief, loss, rejection or early experiences that were never processed.
Chronic stress: pressure at work or at home, with no healthy outlet.
Anxiety and low mood: using a substance or habit to quieten difficult feelings.
Limiting beliefs: deep-seated thoughts such as "I am not enough" that drive the need for escape.
Environment and family patterns: behaviours modelled in the home or reinforced by social circles.
When the root is addressed, the craving loses much of its hold.
How Dr. Dee helps you reverse addiction
Dr. Dee combines Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT), clinical hypnotherapy and practical coaching. The aim is to change the subconscious pattern behind the addiction, not merely to manage the symptoms.
Confidential assessment. A private first consultation to understand your history, your goals and whether this programme is right for you.
Finding the root cause. Using RTT and hypnosis, Dr. Dee helps you safely revisit the experiences and beliefs that created the pattern.
Reprogramming the response. The mind is guided to release the old association and adopt new, healthier beliefs about yourself and the behaviour.
Reinforcement at home. You receive a personalised recording to listen to daily, which strengthens the new pattern between sessions.
Ongoing support. Follow-up sessions, lifestyle guidance and, where helpful, involvement of family members to support a lasting recovery.
Where medical detoxification or psychiatric care is required, Dr. Dee works alongside your doctor or refers you to an appropriate medical professional in Colombo.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the practice located?
Dr. Dee sees clients in person at his practice in Colombo. Online sessions are also available for clients elsewhere in Sri Lanka or overseas.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the person and the addiction. Many clients notice a shift after the first RTT session, with a short series of follow-ups to reinforce the change. Dr. Dee will recommend a plan after your assessment.
Is hypnotherapy safe? Will I lose control?
Yes, it is safe, and no, you remain aware and in control throughout. Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state; you cannot be made to say or do anything against your will.
Do I need to stop using before I begin?
No. You can begin as you are. If physical withdrawal could be dangerous, as can occur with alcohol or sedatives, Dr. Dee will ask you to involve a medical doctor before reducing use.
Can a family member book on someone's behalf?
Family members are welcome to make contact for guidance. Therapy itself works best when the person concerned chooses to take part.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. Your details and everything discussed in sessions remain strictly private.
